MRI Results

I just spoke to my mom and she wanted me to let everyone know what the doctors had to say. First of all, his neck is fine and they will be taking the collar off today. The MRI should some bruising and contusions on his brain. There is some damage but the doctors are not overly concerned. They will not test his IQ for about 6 months to give him time to heal. One thing that the doctors want everyone to know is that he will not be the same kid when he wakes up. His personality may be very different and it might take awhile for him to get back to his old self.

They are still going to operate on his jaw tomorrow. They will be inserting a trach (I have no idea how to spell that) to help him breathe and he will likely go home with it. The doctors are confident that the surgery on his jaw will go well as it is a common procedure. His jaw will be wired shut for about 3 weeks and then he will still be on a soft diet after that. They will also be doing an x-ray of his hip.

My mom said that they will try to wake him up after the surgery tomorrow and see how he does. They are predicting that he will be brought to Salt Lake on Thursday or Friday of next week. He will then go into a rehabilitation center for about a month. They want him moving around before they transfer him. This is all speculation at this point so don't be surprised if the plan changes. Again we need everyone to know that he is still in the ICU and while they are confident that he will recover we don't know how long it will take or how much damage there will be.

We know that everyone is anxious to see him so we will let you know as soon as they are comfortable with him having visitors. We are so grateful for all of your comments and it means a lot to the entire family to be able to see the love and concern you have for Kent. Please continue to leave comments, we love hearing from all of you!
