Writing

Kent has found a new way to communicate . . . writing. He writes "yes" and "no" as well as other messages when my parents can't figure out what he wants. He can hold up 1 finger, 2 fingers, 3 fingers, etc. He is also starting to drink through a straw. Today they gave him some Cranberry Grape juice and he really liked that. They need to make sure he is swallowing properly and that the fluid isn't going into his lungs. Because the juice is colored it is easier to monitor. My mom said that he is also getting really good at using the washcloth on his eyes, mouth and nose. He's getting frustrated because there are a lot of things that he wants to do for himself that he can't. His nurse Dave had a chat with him today and told him the he could not pull his tubes out! He warned him that it could do damage and really hurt. Dave also told him that he was doing wonderful.

It is so amazing how far he has come in the last week. It sounds as if they will be transferring him to LDS hospital. All of his doctors need to concur that he is ready to move and then the process will begin. We are so ready to have him home in Utah!

We are all so pleased at his progress! My dad wanted me to mention again that all of your prayers have been key in his recovery and that Kent's clean life has also been a major contributing factor to his progress.
